Bishop Rhymes H. Moncure, Jr., Bishop of the North Texas Annual
Conference, died Saturday evening in Dallas. Please be in prayer for his wife
Jewell, his children, Roxanne and Jason, and all the members of the
North Texas Annual Conference.
Schedule of Services for Bishop Rhymes H. Moncure, Jr.:

8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 - Visitation and viewing at
Restland Memorial Funeral Home, 9220 Restland Road (at Greenville Avenue),
Dallas.

5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 - Bishop Moncure will lie in
state in the sanctuary of Lovers Lane UMC, 9200 Inwood Road (at Northwest
Hwy ), Dallas. Reception from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in Asbury Hall.

11:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 - Memorial Service and Celebration of the
Life of Bishop Rhymes H. Moncure, Jr., First UMC, Richardson, 503 North
Central Expressway, Richardson.

Clergy Gathering '06 welcomes Dr. Craig Gilliam as presenter and Dr.
Zan Holmes as preacher, September 26--27 at Lakeview. Craig Gilliam,
Director of the Center for Pastoral Effectiveness in the Louisiana
Conference, will be talking about "Rediscovering Your Passion for Ministry."
Zan Holmes, one of the truly great preachers of our generation, will
inspire us and challenge us. Bishop Huie invites you to a conversation
and will celebrate communion Wednesday evening.
In an abbreviated format, we will convene Tuesday afternoon and have
communion together at the end of Wednesday afternoon. Those who can
stay for the evening will enjoy fellowship and some special worship
opportunities.

ENGAGED ENCOUNTER - UNITED METHODIST Weekend Aug. 25-27, 2006 in
Houston.
Registrations are still being taken for this upcoming event. It is
an opportunity for all engaged and newly-married couples, and also for
couples considering engagement. The Engaged Encounter-United Methodist
weekend is an approved program of the General Board of Discipleship of
The UMC and of the Family Ministries Committee of the Texas Annual
Conference. It meets the recommendation of the 2004 General Conference
Resolution #27 regarding nurturing marriage and family.

There will be an organizational meeting of the new "WEST DISTRICT"
United Methodist MEN at College Station A&M UMC, 417 University Dr, College
Station, in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, August 26 from 3:00 - 4:30
pm. We will adopt new district UMM bylaws and elect and install new
officers. All the men from every church in the new WEST DISTRICT are
invited and encouraged to attend, as well as all the clergy of the district.

New Speech Craft Workshop to Prepare Laity for Ministry - Too many
Christians are afraid to speak up among Christians, let alone reach out to
those outside the Church in the name of Jesus. This two-part seminar
will help laity to develop confidence to share their testimony, pray out
loud, lead a small group, or help lead worship in church. The seminar
teaches basic speech skills and gives participants opportunities to
practice these in a non-threatening environment.
This class will meet August 31st and September 7th from 6:00-9:00
p.m. at First Methodist Houston-Westchase in the Stansbury Building

Education School on September 9? Don't wait any longer. (Registration fee

includes: gaining the courage to teach adults, creating settings for
worship, ministries with young adults and older adults, dealing with
conflict, mercy and justice ministries, our Social Principals, stress
reduction, and spiritual direction.
This year's event, "Leading from the Heart," takes place at Memorial
Drive UMC from 9 am to 2:30 pm. Keynote speaker is Chuck Simmons,
