Please be in prayer for Mary Anderson, mother of Betty Christian (youth
director at Lakewood UMC). Mary is in Methodist Hospital.

FROM Bette Smale (wife of Bill Smale, retired)~
I just wanted to thank all for their prayers and concerns. The surgery
went well and I am on the road to recovery, if I survive the rehab.
Bill and I do believe in prayers healing. We both have experienced it
several times in our lives.

Conference~
There will be an organizational meeting of the new "WEST DISTRICT"
United Methodist MEN at College Station A&M UMC, 417 University Dr, College
Station, in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, August 26 from 3:00 - 4:30
pm. The purpose of the meeting is to adopt new district UMMen bylaws
and to elect and install new district UMM officers. All the men from
every church in the new WEST DISTRICT are invited and encouraged to attend,
as well as all the clergy of the district.

Celebration Women’s Ministry presents a Leadership Connection Event,
"Equipped to Pray," Saturday, August 26, 2006 at FUMC, Longview, TX.
Time: 9:30- 3:30/Cost: $20.00, which includes breakfast and lunch. Barbara
Byerly will be our guest speaker. Barbara has traveled extensively
both nationally and internationally in her teaching ministry.
We invite all women to come be equipped and inspired. There will be
worship, teaching, prayer time, and training for local chapter
Celebration leadership. Workshops on Prayer, Worship, Officer Training, and
Ministry Teams will be offered. All women are invited to "experience
Celebration," benefit from Barbara’s teaching on prayer, and learn more

Want to know more about Methodist history and doctrine? Or simply try
out a seminary-level class to see if it "fits? Houston Graduate School
of Theology will offer a fall course in "United Methodist History and
Doctrine" that meets the requirements for ordination candidates and is
applicable to a M.Div. at HGST or for transfer to Perkins or other
seminaries. The class will meet on Friday afternoons at 1:30 at Lakewood
United Methodist Church on the northwest side of Houston, beginning on
September 8, and will be led by Dr. C. Chappell Temple, adjunct professor
at HGST.

The Passport To Mission Event for September 15-16, 2006, at the
Woodlands UMC, will feature Bishop Janice Riggle Huie and Dr. Robert Hunt from
Perkins School of Theology. Plenary sessions and workshops will be sign
language interpreted, so please spread the word among your hard of
hearing, Deaf, and late-deafened members who might like to attend. The cost
