Moody Memorial First UMC of Galveston is pleased to present 14-year old
concert organist Samuel Gaskin on Sunday, April 2, at 4:00 pm.
In 2001, at age 10, Samuel was the youngest recipient of the A.W.
Yeats Scholarship for Pipe Organ Study from First UMC of Beaumont. In
2005, as a 7th grader, he was selected as a national finalist for both the
Albert Schweitzer and the L. Cameron Johnson organ competitions. Samuel
was also awarded a 2005 French Organ Music Seminar scholarship to
travel to Paris to meet and learn from some of the world’s best organists.
In addition to performing in concert in three different cities this
spring, Samuel will be performing with Boston Brass at this summer’s
Meadowlark Music Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska. Come enjoy the music by one
of southeast Texas’ own!

JOY RESPITE NIGHTS - an opportunity for parents of children with
disabilities and their siblings to enjoy a Friday night out while their
children are well cared for and have FUN!
JOY SUMMER ADVENTURE CAMP - our one-day summer adventure camp
designed to help school-age children with special needs and their siblings
enjoy a one-day summer camp within a God-centered, safe environment. The
JOY Summer camp will be held at Wesley Academy (on First Methodist’s
campus) on June 23, 2006 from 9am-1pm.

The Texas Conference United Methodist Women Language Coordinators
invite you to the Second Annual Cultural Event: "Getting to Know You,
Getting to Know the UMW."
It is set for April 29 at 9:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. at Chandler United
Methodist Church in Chandler, Texas (Tyler District).
The purpose of the event is to introduce the work of the UMW, to
nurture and expand the understanding of mission with women, children,
youth and families. We also hope to build better community between
different language groups that are not yet participating in the organization.
Activities at this event will help to enable all groups to organize
local units and/or circles in the churches, eliminating barriers that
prevent participation by listening to suggestions and comments offered by
prospective members.
Mary Tipton, Asian Language Coordinator says, we hope to share warm
fellowship, mutual love of Christ and His Saving Grace, His Mission to
the world, and partake of ethnic and other refreshments. Speakers will
include messages from Virginia Gill, South Central Jurisdiction, and
Dr.Glenna Kyker Brayton, Native Indian Ministries.
Health kits for UMCOR depot will be collected on a voluntary basis.

On Saturday, April 1, Marvin UMC in Tyler is sponsoring EMPTY BOWLS, a
fundraiser for hunger relief. Over 60 one-of-a-kind bowls have been
designed by Marvin artists and friends. There will be a silent auction
that night to raise money, but some of the bowls are already on the Marvin
website for preview and early bidding. Go to the website at

The fun begins at 6 p.m. at Marvin UMC, 300 W. Erwin in Tyler, with
a great dinner, silent auction, music and moments of inspiration and
fun! Tickets are still available for this great event at $15 each and
they also may be purchased at the door.

ATTENTION High School Students!
The IMPACT team from Texas A&M invites you to come spend time in small
group devotion time with college students who are devoted to Christ.
They will share their testimonies as well as what they are experiencing
in college and will answer questions high schoolers have about college.
Sessions will be small groups, as well as large group talks, games, and
worship.
WHEN: April 1st - April 2nd (Sat - Sun) 6:30 pm - 8 am -

$10 recommended donation to cover expenses and meals. Dinner served
at 6:30 pm; breakfast at 7 am Sunday morning.
This non-denominational event will be over before 8 am to allow you

EARLY RESPONDER Training will be offered on April 1st & 2nd for those
who would like to be certified by UMCOR to go into a disaster area to
make home and churches SAFE, SANITARY and SECURE.
Classes will be at Woodlands UMC on April 1st 9 AM - 3 PM and at
Summit UMC in Marshall on April 2nd 2 - 8 PM. Cost is $15, which includes
a T-shirt, badge & meal. Advanced Registration is required.
