prevent electricity disconnection and/or require electric companies to offer
an extended deferred payment plan to customers in need. More

FROM Angela Baker, Director Rita Recovery~
Beaumont...The Rita Recovery office is in urgent need of volunteer
teams to come to Southeast Texas to repair homes for families affected by
Hurricane Rita. Many homes still have blue tarps covering them and more
than 900 families are on the waiting list. Why are they still waiting
after nearly a year? We have the materials and the time but we don’t
have the volunteers! We need you! We are currently recruiting teams
for the fall and into 2007. Information is on the Rita Recovery website
at www.umcortexas.com or you can contact Bonnie McAndrews, Volunteer
Coordinator at bmcandrews@umcortexas.com or call her at 409-892-0140.
Please prayerfully consider answering the call to help families recover
from this disaster.

FROM John Harrington~
The link below represents a series of sites where you can send a letter
of personal thanks and encouragement to thousands of individuals now
active in the military. It would be good for local churches and
individual membership to be informed of this kind of opportunity to reach out
to these deserving folks....http://www.anysoldier.com/

FROM Robin K. Rogers, Ph. D.~
The Center for Literacy at Baylor University is conducting a survey of
church-based literacy ministries (programs) in the state of Texas.
Literacy ministries may include classes such as English as a Second
Language (ESL), adult basic education, or tutoring children and youth.
If your church is involved in some type of literacy ministry, we
would appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete the brief online
survey at:
http://www1.baylor.edu/surveys/Literacy_FaithBased/literacy_esl_survey.htm.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the survey, please
call me at the Center for Literacy (254-710-3854) or email me at
Centerforliteracy@baylor.edu.
