____________________NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS/EVENTS___________________

FROM Glynden Bode, Chairperson, Church & Society~
Pastors should know of this to help parishoners in need. There was a
significant decision last week at the Public Utility Commission (PUC)
that can help many Texans in need. Effective immediately, medically-needy
and low-income customers 65 and over are protected from electricity
disconnection until September 30, 2006. However, utility companies do not
have to notify their customers about this new benefit. Please share the
following information with your members:
Electric customers who are struggling to pay their bills and face
disconnection this summer should contact their electric company and
express an inability to pay. For some households, new protections may
prevent electricity disconnection and/or require electric companies to offer
an extended deferred payment plan to customers in need. More
information is available through the customer's electric company, the Public
Utility Commission ( 512.936.7000) and the Office of Public Utility
Counsel (512.936.7500).
