The Rita Recovery office is in urgent need of volunteer teams to come
to Southeast Texas to repair homes for families affected by Hurricane
Rita. Many homes still have blue tarps covering them and more than 900
families are on the waiting list. Why are they still waiting after
nearly a year? Because we don’t have enough volunteers! We need you!

The Center for Literacy at Baylor University is conducting a survey of
church-based literacy ministries (programs) in the state of Texas.
Literacy ministries may include classes such as English as a Second
Language (ESL), adult basic education, or tutoring children and youth.

There will be a SOUTHWEST District UMM meeting to elect "new district"
UMM officers - open to all men in the district - at Missouri City First
UMC on Lexington Blvd, Saturday, August 12, from 3 - 4:30 P.M.

The United Methodist Men at First UMC, LaPorte, 9601 Fairmont Pkwy, La
Porte, will host Rev. Marvin Hood at their monthly breakfast. Aug. 12.
Breakfast is served at 7:00 am and the meeting will end by 9:00 am.
The First UMC-sponsored Fellowship Riders will leave immediately
following the program for their monthly motorcycle trip. This month, we
will ride to Galveston and Freeport. Lunch will take place in the
Freeport area. Fellowship Riders will depart the church by 9:30 am.

St. Paul’s UMC, Houston, will begin four of the Disciple Bible Study
series classes in six different time slots, beginning Monday, August 21.
Most are at peak enrollment, but there’s still room in the Jesus in the
Gospels class at 7 p.m. Tuesday evenings and the brown bag lunch class
of Disciple II at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays.

Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry training is being offered during a 3
-day seminar Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 at First UMC Pasadena. HTSM is an
energy-based therapeutic approach to healing built upon a Judeo-Christian
understanding and the healing ministry of Christ. The training provides 24
contact hours and is certified for CEUs for RNs and Massage Therapists,
